One of my earliest memories involves me gettin my apple juice on to the Real Ghostbusters. Inspector Gadget got me through my terrible twos, and at four, Jessica Rabbit made my eyeballs shoot out of my head. I watched a grotesque amount of Ninja Turtles, became Raphael from 5-10 (I love how he was a smarmy dick to everyone), and had sugar induced dreams of becoming an animator one day.
Spending my days drawing unhealthy amounts of cartoons with Looney Tunes blaring in the background gave me an appreciation for the impact and awesomeness of the soundtrack: the piano roll canyon fall, the violin trill train hit, the accordion torso accordion-ing; these sounds defined cartoons for me.
Fast Forward a bit to the Simpson’s era and you’ll see the exact moment I decided to buy my first guitar. Bart nearly discouraged me, but Otto’s rippin solo on the bus left an impact on me bigger than I may ever know.
Bart: “I didn’t know you played guitar, Otto man.”
Otto: “Hey, that’s all I did in high school.”
You and me both, Otto. You and me both.
Then it was Beavis and Butthead who gave me a disgusting obsession with shredding guitars and making fun of bad music videos (keep ‘em coming Tokio Hotel).
…and now i’m here.
I currently teach guitar and bass at Heritage Music in Edmonton, and play all styles ranging from thrash metal to reggae. I’ve written over 200 songs from all over the gamut, but my favorite songs to write are for soundtracks. I’ve had songs put into Independent films, and am insanely excited to be working on “Brainsick Jones” with these other like-minded dorks at Thunderfist.
I am also illustrating a gory fantasy novel that is being written as we speak by Morgan “Trollheart” Lambert. Imagine the love-child of Tolkien and Kerry King, and you might be able to picture the disgusting thoughts being spewed onto ol’ Trollheart’s page (look to this site in the future for more updates).
In 2007 I graduated from the Illustration Design program at Grant Macewan and now do freelance design for print (logos, business cards, posters, brochures, etc.) as well as freelance drawing and band merch.
You did this to me, cartoons! you beautiful, sadistic bitch.
